Hyundai Flagship EV Charging Station

Comitment to the future

On January 21, 2021, Hyundai and SK Networks unveiled their first electric vehicle charging station in Seoul, transforming a former gas station into the innovative 'Hyundai EV Station Gangdong'. This 4000m2, six-story facility highlights the shift towards sustainable mobility. By merging a charging station with lifestyle amenities, it redefines waiting time as an opportunity for quality experiences.

Flagship Experience

Hi-Charger’s Iconic Halo Architecture is designed to reframe the traditional user experience associated with fuel stations. The design aims to enhance convenience, accessibility, and aesthetic appeal. Key features include a robotic arm that delivers the charging handle directly to the user, while the halo light bar indicates charge status.

Built From the Ground Up

Designing an EV charger with a robotic arm that delivers the charging handle to the user presented a series of intricate engineering challenges. The primary objective was to create a system that combines the mechanical functionality with the iconic halo profile suspended 10ft in the air.

Collaborating closely with a leading EV charging manufacturing company, we ventured into creating something entirely new. This partnership was crucial in addressing the multifaceted engineering challenges while retaining the original design intent and user experience.

Hyundai EV Station Gangdong

The concept of the charging station for electric cars in Gangdong, South Korea, aims to turn the charging process into an experience. By combining a rough concrete surface with a futuristic vocabulary of form, the design creates a space with a dynamic atmosphere. The ceiling opening in the centre of the station also gives users the opportunity to keep an eye on their car while visiting the cafe inside the building.
